Bolton Wanderers still in market for new signings says Ian Evatt ahead of Wigan clash
WANDERERS will move for attacking reinforcements in the transfer market if one of Ian Evattâs shortlisted players becomes available in the coming week.
The Bolton boss is keeping a keen eye on several younger strikers who were earmarked as potential additions in the summer.
Both Evatt and technical performance director Chris Markham began a list of potential signings in February with one eye on League One football and added to it after promotion.
Evatt says he is pleased with the squad he assembled early in the window but admits he could be tempted into another deal or two if a player on whom he has done his homework becomes available.
âWeâre always looking, weâre always on the hunt,â he said. âObviously we did a lot of work during the off season and the end of last season and have a list of players that we feel would suit the way we play, and if some of those become available then weâll look at it.
âFundamentally weâre really happy with what weâve got â" but if itâs the right thing to do for the football club, then yes, we would bring someone else in.â
Crucially, Wanderers would be able to add Under-21s to their squad without upsetting the EFLâs squad quota rules.
Evatt does anticipate some of his players heading in the opposite direction, however, which may offer scope to bring in a senior player.
âYeah, I think thereâs every chance of players leaving,â he said. âNothing is really happening at the moment, but as you know the last week and especially the final few days, it becomes very busy.
âWe think that there will be some outgoings, definitely yes.â
Evatt has also called on Wanderersâ supporters to be passionate â" but stay safe at the DW Stadium tomorrow night.
Around 4,700 away fans will be heading to Wigan on Tuesday night with memories of their last unhappy visit in 2019 â" marred by fighting and clashes with police â" still fresh.
Evatt hopes the cup tie will pass off without any unsavoury incidents.
âIâm all for rivalry and local derbies, but providing people stay within the rules and behave themselves responsibly,â he said.
âIn the age of keyboard warriors, people can say what they want on social media to each other, but when fans are there, it can be a heated and emotional atmosphere.
âI think itâs important that we have some perspective and make sure that we back our team in a responsible way.
âHaving said that, our fans are absolutely amazing. I have no doubts that they will and support us correctly and hopefully weâll give them something to sing and shout about.â
